Brandon Stollar '27, Nutrition: Dietetics
Brandon Stollar ’27, from Dover NH, is a Nutrition Dietetics student in the College of Life Sciences and Agriculture. Brandon shared his experience as a commuter student at UNH.
Why did you choose UNH?
I am from Dover, NH, and I joined the Navy after high school and spent 5 years stationed across the country in Fallon, NV. I wanted to come back to New Hampshire to be closer to family and my friends I grew up with, so naturally UNH seemed like the best decision.
What is your major and what do you love about it?
My major is dietetics. I love the science of nutrition and learning about how it is applied. I also very much enjoy exercise and living an active life and I think the relationship between these things and diet is fascinating.
What is the best academic experience you've had at UNH?
My best academic experience at UNH was probably this past spring semester. Not necessarily any specific class but this was my first full semester past NUTR 400 where I took a lot of nutrition classes and was very affirming that I made a good choice with dietetics as my major.
What's the best academic experience you've had at UNH outside the classroom/lab?
Honestly, outside of class I don't spend a whole lot of time on campus because I live in a house about 20 minutes off campus but I enjoy hanging out with my roommates I live with and I enjoy riding my bike and lifting weights. I have very much enjoyed my experience at the UNH gym as well, excellent equipment and friendly staff.
How is UNH preparing you to achieve your goals?
UNH is preparing me to achieve my goals by having an excellent program for nutrition. Every nutrition course I have taken has been appropriately challenging while providing some excellent insight into the world of nutrition. Additionally, the other classes in the course curriculum for nutrition have made me a very well rounded student in my eyes.
Are there any faculty or staff members who have made you feel particularly supported and encouraged at UNH? If yes, please tell us about them.
From my experience, as having only been a commuter, it is wonderful. Easy to get to, great facilities, great faculty and staff, and great academic programs with excellent opportunities for students. In talking with my classmates, it also seems like there are lots of things to do on campus as well.
