Hello Students, Faculty, and Staff,
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and as we move into spring, we invite our entire community to take a moment to reflect on the importance of prevention, support, and collective responsibility when it comes to interpersonal violence.
Sexual Assault Awareness Month has roots in the grassroots activism of the 1970s, including the first Take Back the Night March in 1975, and has grown into a national movement centered on education, survivor support, and community action. At UNH, we have long honored this month through programming designed to uplift survivors and engage our community in prevention efforts. Visit the SHARPP Center's website to learn more about the month and this year's initiatives and how you can get involved.
This year is a particularly meaningful one as we prepare to close Wolff House, the longstanding home for the SHARPP Center. Some of our older buildings on campus need to be closed , and this presents an opportunity to relocate the SHARPP Center into a location that is better suited for the important work we do for students. Please know that this change will allow us to better deliver services to students and there will be no reduction in services because of this relocation. We will be in touch with more information on our future location and opportunities to say goodbye to this important building.
Awareness months like this one can also be a reminder that support is always available. If you or someone you know has been impacted by interpersonal violence, the following resources are here for you:
- The SHARPP Center, the Civil Rights & Equity Office, and the University Police Department are available to support students impacted by violence.
- Learn about your options to report sexual misconduct and access confidential support services.
- The uSafeUS app, developed by UNH's Prevention Innovations Research Center, provides immediate access to UNH prevention and response resources 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
We are grateful to be part of a community that takes this work seriously. Prevention is everyone's responsibility, and together, we can continue to build a campus where every member feels safe, supported, and valued.
Sincerely,
Bo Zaryckyj
